If you have decided you want to mount your new or old Television on the wall there are a few things you need to consider before you go ahead and buy a TV wall mount. One of the most important things is; is your television suitable for wall mounting was it designed as a wall mounting TV. You can find this information out on the instruction booklet which comes with you television, if it is suitable for wall mounting then it will tell you the best way of doing this. Most TV wall mounts are for the newer flat screen televisions however small portable televisions can be mounted on a special bracket which normally consists of a swing arm with a platform which you then strap your small portable television to; this is not suitable for large televisions as they are too heavy.

One of the most important things to check prior to purchasing your TV wall mount is what the VESA requirements of your television this is how you determine the correct mount is used for your television. The VESA requirements should be in the instruction book for your television. The VESA requirements will take into consideration the wall mounts load capacity and holding bolt patterns to make sure there is no danger of overloading the wall mount. You can then buy the wall mount with the corresponding VESA settings.

The next most important thing to consider before buying your TV wall mount is what kind of wall you are mounting it on. You will need to check the wall and see what it is made from and if it will take the weight of both the television and the mounting bracket. Normally outside walls are the best option for mounting the television on as they are made from more sturdy material than an inner wall. However it does not mean you cannot use an inner wall you just have to make sure it will hold the weight.

You then want to decide what kind of television mount you want for example you may want a tilt wall mount bracket for your TV so you can change the angle or you may decide on a tilt and swivel TV mount. Your flat screen wall mount bracket also needs to be positioned so you get the best view. It is no good mounting your nice new flat screen television on the wall if you cannot see it properly. You may have to take into consideration where it is in relation to the window as you will not want the sun shining off the screen and making it impossible to see.

If your TV is connected to surround sound you will also have to make sure you can still plug the surround sound into the television when it is mounted on the wall. You may need longer cables but this is quite an easy fix. Also when you mount your television on the wall you will have lots of cables hanging from it, if you do not want these cables on show running down your wall you may wish to invest in some cable sleeves which attach to the wall and hide all the cabling.
